logical reasoning skills as you solve a variety of problems that will tease your
brain.
Chess-Beginner - Learn how logic,
strategy and creative problem solving skills are applied from the opening move
to checkmate.
Chess-Experienced - Continue to develop
your knowledge - record your game using notation, solve intermediate problems,
evaluate your position mid-game through advanced tactics.
College Gate® Detective - Gather clues,
analyze evidence, solve campus “crimes” as you investigate mysteries and become
a “Crime Scene Investigator.”
Colossal Cake Confections - Have you ever
wondered how delicious cakes in bakeries are decorated? Practice daily with
frosting as you learn how to make: flowers, stars, fancy edges and creative
confections. Put on your apron and be ready to share your creations with family
and friends.
Computer
Technology - Explore a variety of
programs and their applications including computer graphics, illustration and
elements of the web. Create flyers, menus, Power Point presentations and more.
Creatures of the Land and Sea - Through
music, story and art, learn about various creatures: insects, turtles, bats,
butterflies, dinosaurs, ocean mammals and more.
Dance the Day Away - Dance to high
energy, up beat music as you learn a variety of moves, techniques and dances.
Learn the dynamics of practicing and preparing for a group production.
Experiment with Engineering - Discover
the many exciting aspects of physics as you explore engineering, build
structures and learn how things work. Can you make a suspension bridge out of
toothpicks, newspapers, marshmallows, tape and more?
It’s Electric - Unveil the secrets of
circuits, current and electric power using batteries, wire, lights and more.
Magnificent Magicians - Amuse and amaze
your family/friends as you learn to perform a variety of magic tricks. Say
Abracadabra and make things disappear as you prepare for the Magic Show.
Magic
Carpet - Grab your passport, pack your
bags and travel to Spain, France, Japan and more. Explore the language, customs
and culture of many destinations through music, stories, games and art.
Math Is Everywhere - Explore, investigate
and discover how math is all around us. Experience concepts such as geometry,
patterns and graphing through problem solving activities.
Passion for Fashion - Make your fashion
ideas come to life as you discover fashion design and illustration. Create
innovative outfits with simple t-shirts and learn the principles of
“accessorizing”! Delight family and friends during the final day fashion show.
Robotics - Construct a variety of moving
vehicles and program them for a series of team challenges.
Rocketry (Kids MUST be IN grade 3 at time
of registration) -
Count down & blast-off! Construct and launch
your own model rockets while learning about physics and aerodynamics.
Sculpture with Clay - Using air-dried
clay, learn how to become a sculptor and make many three dimensional art forms.
Science Discovery - Explore a variety of
sciences such as Chemistry, Biology & Physics along with their "lab" procedures
through a diverse set of hands-on experiments.
Science Power - Discover a variety of
sciences such as chemistry, oceanography and biology using proper lab
techniques.
Super
Sportscasters -Work at the College Gate®
sports desk as you learn how to become a broadcaster. Research and report on
current sporting events and players on camera. Become a baseball team owner and
discover how math impacts the statistics, trends and transactions of your
favorite athletes.
“Treble”makers - Make and learn how to
play percussion and woodwind instruments using various materials. Practice songs
with your new instruments as you prepare for a concert.
Woodworkers - Put on your tool belt as
you measure, saw, drill, sand, hammer, nail, assemble and finish a variety of
wooden projects.
